LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A 39-year-old Lincoln man has been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he met online.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Floyd Coleman II was sentenced Friday in Lancaster County District Court to 30 to 40 years. He must also register as a sex offender upon his release.

Coleman apologized to the victim and her family at the sentencing, before going on the blame the victim for the assault, saying he met the girl on an adult dating website where she said she was 25.

Prosecutors say the evidence in the case showed he knew the girl was well underage.

Police learned of the assault after the girl was impregnated in 2013 by Coleman.
