NEW YORK (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency will hold a third public meeting on its review of the Hudson River Superfund cleanup, this one in New York City.
The EPA says the meeting will be held in Manhattan on Aug. 9 to discuss the agency’s recent review of how well the $1.7 billion dredging project is working.
Boston-based General Electric removed 2.75 million cubic yards (2.1 million cubic meters) of PCB-contaminated sediment from a 40-mile (64-kilometer) stretch of the upper Hudson through 2015.
In its recent review, the agency said that while polychlorinated biphenyl levels in fish remain high, more dredging doesn’t seem necessary for now. That conclusion drew harsh criticism at two previous public meetings in Poughkeepsie and Saratoga Springs.
The agency is accepting public comment on the review until Sept 1.
