(AP) - In a story July 27 about package alcohol hours reduced in Gallup, New Mexico, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the Gallup City Council voted to limit the timeframe that takeout alcohol can be purchased within city limits from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The council voted unanimously to change the start of package sales from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - The Gallup City Council has passed an ordinance limiting the timeframe that takeout alcohol can be purchased within city limits.
The Gallup Independent reports (https://goo.gl/riA16S ) the city council voted unanimously to change the start of package sales from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
City Attorney George Kozeliski says the ordinance is aimed at giving police officers a chance to “catch their breath.”
Package alcohol now can only be purchased for 16 hours a day.
The purchase timeframe was cut by three hours, which is the maximum amount of time Class B counties are allowed to limit sales thanks to a bill signed in March by Gov. Susana Martinez.
Gallup Police Department Deputy Chief Franklin Boyd says pushing the hours back will provide “tremendous relief.”
