PHOENIX (AP) - A judge is recommending that the regulatory agency overseeing utilities in Arizona approve a deal on rate increases reached earlier by the state’s largest electric company and consumer advocates and business groups.

Assistant Chief Administrative Law Judge Teena Jibilian on Wednesday adopted the earlier agreement and recommended that the Arizona Corporation Commission approve the deal reached earlier this year between Arizona Public Service and the organizations.

The agreement will allow lower rate increases and smaller cuts to what the electric company pays rooftop solar customers than it originally proposed.

APS is the largest electric provider in the state with more than 1.2 million customers.

The Arizona Corporation Commission has yet to schedule a meeting on the matter.
