MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A San Diego developer has sued Mason City and the Chamber of Commerce Foundation, alleging breach of contract and interference.

The lawsuit was filed July 18 by G8 Development Inc., which is owned by Phillip Chodur. It alleges the chamber interfered with his contract to build a downtown hotel and had secret meetings with City Council members to champion a competing proposal in the northern Iowa city. The chamber director declined to comment.

The city says G8 missed three deadlines for its project. The City Council has since approved a predevelopment agreement with Gatehouse Capital.

The lawsuit says the city imposed conditions that weren’t part of the contract. City Administrator Brent Trout told the Mason City Globe Gazette (https://bit.ly/2w3abs4 ) on Wednesday that he wasn’t aware of the lawsuit.
