RENO, Nev. (AP) - Reno police have arrested an arson suspect accused of trying to start fires at a Motel 6 and in a nearby area along Interstate 80.

Police said Wednesday 26-year-old James Hobbs of Reno has been booked on suspicion of first- and third-degree arson.

Police Sgt. Jerel Hallert says officers responded to a report of a man trying to start a fire early Tuesday in the lobby of the motel on Stardust Street. The motel manager was able to extinguish the flames with minimal damage.

Officers located a suspect who fit the description and were questioning him Tuesday when they spotted a second fire burning near the interstate just east of the motel. Firefighters were able to extinguish that blaze as well.

It’s not clear if Hobbs has an attorney or will be appointed him at a pending court appearance.
