HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Two men accused of criminal connection to a compound pharmacy scheme have pleaded guilty in a Mississippi federal court.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that 40-year-old Jason May and 47-year-old Gerald “Jay” Schaar pleaded before Judge Keith Starrett on Tuesday after both were charged on July 12. They’re accused of involvement in a scheme that allegedly defrauded more than $400 million from the government, insurance agencies and individuals.
May, co-owner of Advantage Pharmacy in Lamar County, faces one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government. Schaar faces one count of attempt and conspiracy.
Starrett set both men’s personal surety bonds at $25,000 each. The men are able to remain free until sentencing Oct. 17, unless either violates his release terms, which requires the bond be paid and the offender taken into custody.
