CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Cheyenne residents who modify their diesel vehicles to blast out heavier plumes of smoke could be hit with worse punishments than the state’s $100 fine after City Council’s latest action.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/2w17x6i ) that the council voted Monday night to ban the practice commonly referred to as “rolling coal.”
Councilman Rocky Case says he was shocked that nobody in favor of the practice showed up to the council meeting.
Case says he really expected people to come out and talk about how the practice is good for the public.
Rolling coal is already banned by state statute, but the penalty at the state level is only $100. Putting the issue into city code gives the municipal court discretion to increase punishment those who violate the ordinance.
