CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Charleston police are seeking a man who they say lit a woman on fire as she slept on the porch of a home.

Charleston Police Detective Lt. Steve Cooper says the woman was asleep on the porch Sunday morning when a man poured gasoline on her and lit her on fire.

Media outlets report the woman suffered extensive burns and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A short time later, a man who matched the description of the suspect kicked in the door to another home and attempted to light it on fire. However, homeowners were able to stop him and chase him away.

Cooper says the police believe the same man is responsible for both incidents. Police have not released the suspect’s identity.
