TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey woman is heading to prison for her role in a shoplifting ring.
The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/2uP7blJ ) 30-year-old Chiara Pender, of Millville, was sentenced Friday to five years in prison. Pender pleaded guilty to a second-degree charge of leading of an organized retail theft ring in March.
Prosecutors say Pender worked with several other co-conspirators to steal more than $20,000 in clothing and electronics from stores that included Target, Walmart and Burlington Coat Factory. Authorities say Pender returned the stolen items in exchange for gift cards that she would later sell at pawn shops.
According to state Attorney General Christopher Porrino, seven other ring members were arrested and have all pleaded guilty.
