SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah flag with a historical error that for more than a dozen years hung at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., has been replaced.
The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/2uR79Kx ) reports the inaccurate flag noted the date of the Mormon pioneer’s arrival in Utah as 1647. That’s off by two centuries.
A Kennedy Center employee on Monday used a giant cherry picker to replace the flag with one that shows the correct year: 1847.
A Holladay native discovered the error. Ryan Martin, who now lives in Virginia, got to keep the inaccurate flag. He says his “pioneer ancestors are clapping upstairs now.”
Utahns on Monday celebrated the 170th anniversary of the founding of their state.
