MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Republican businessman Eric Hovde says his move to close his 2012 Senate campaign committee should not be interpreted as a sign he is not going to run next year.
Hovde said Monday that paperwork filing with the Federal Elections Commission earlier this month indicating he plan to close the “Hovde for Senate” campaign committee was just clean up work from the 2012 campaign.
Hovde says he’s still considering whether to get into the race next year and won’t make a decision until after his youngest daughter leaves for college later in August.
Candidates often keep committees open from one race to another so they can easily raise and spend money even if they haven’t officially declared.
Hovde is one of several Republicans considering challenging Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
