PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - The annual Port Huron to Mackinac Island sailboat race on Lake Huron got a boost from good winds.

The Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race started Saturday and the boats finished Sunday and Monday.

Race chairwoman Tricia Smotherman says it ended up being faster than she anticipated. Il Mostro broke its own elapsed time record for the Cove Island course, finishing in 21 hours 45 minutes and 12 seconds.

About 200 boats were in the race. The Cove Island course is 259 nautical miles (480 kilometers) and the Shore Course is 204 nautical miles (378 kilometers).

Winners are determined based on a handicapping system. Results showed Natalie J with the best corrected time on the Cove Island course and Comfortably Numb with the best corrected Shore Island time.
