NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) - Restoration work is planned on all of the cast iron at a historic mansion in southern Indiana.

The News and Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2tnOOAG ) that funding for the work at the Culbertson Mansion in New Albany comes from the state along with other groups. The iron work is the first to be done since the porch railings, limestone retention walls and fence were forged in Louisville and New Albany more than 150 years ago.

Mansion site manager Jessica Stavros says the project will cost nearly $1 million. Of that amount, $489,000 comes from state coffers.

Work is scheduled to start this fall and should take about a year and a half to complete. The property will remain open during restoration.

Pennsylvania businessman William Culbertson built the 25-room mansion in 1867.
