IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City will host two informational meetings to go over the design of the Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project.
The public open house will take place Friday evening at the Sheraton Hotel. A presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a short question and answer session to follow. A meeting for downtown businesses and property owners will also take place earlier in the afternoon.
The project is part of a larger downtown and pedestrian mall streetscape plan. The goal is to improve accessibility, infrastructure and the look and feel of the area. Upgrades will include new lighting, planting and accents that celebrate Iowa City’s uniqueness and cultural footprint in the area.
The project is currently in the design stage and construction is anticipated to begin in 2018.
