MARGATE, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey firefighter who lost his job because he stole about $8 worth of snacks has been charged in an oxycodone drug dealing operation.
Thirty-five-year-old Ashton Funk lost his appeal to regain his job as a firefighter in Margate last year. NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2vJ3JX1 ) Funk is charged with distributing the opioid oxycodone, in what authorities describe as a drug ring led by a North Jersey doctor who falsified prescriptions.
Funk was making over $78,000 a year as a firefighter when he was charged with shoplifting from Wawa in August 2015, stealing $7.98 in snacks. He was found guilty of shoplifting in two separate courts and was forced to forfeit his job.
A call seeking comment from Funk’s lawyer wasn’t immediately returned Friday.
