CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Kanawha County magistrate has resigned a day after a state Supreme Court administrator accused her of stealing from an association where she serves as treasurer.
Media outlets reports Magistrate Julie Yeager resigned Thursday.
On Wednesday, state Supreme Court administrator Gary Johnson accused Yeager in a complaint of stealing at least $14,000 from the West Virginia Magistrate Association. Yeager’s resignation came as the Supreme Court was to consider a report about the allegations from a judicial disciplinary attorney.
The Supreme Court wrote that Yeager would have been suspended without pay if she had not resigned. The court said there was probable cause to believe Yeager violated a judicial conduct code.
Yeager has been treasurer of the association since 2010 and has served as a magistrate since 2005.
