PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) - Southwestern Indiana officials are trying to ease traffic congestion related to a parking lot at the region’s sprawling Toyota plant.

Gibson County commissioners on Tuesday endorsed a $1.25 million plan to address congestion at the plant’s most heavily used lot.

Toyota spokesman Mike Wingo says parking lot congestion sometimes causes vehicles to back up on a street adjacent to the plant, creating a “very chaotic” situation that poses safety risks.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports (https://bit.ly/2uedI8Q ) the proposal would split a berm along the lot to make room for three lanes of traffic leaving the lot and two lanes entering it.

The Toyota plant, about 25 miles north of Evansville, employs about 5,000 workers who build Highlander and Sequoia SUVs and Sienna minivans.
