Democrats, party of election-time failure, have decided their “resistance” messaging isn’t doing them any good and have adopted a new tag line they hope will wing them across the finish line come 2018.

It’s from the pizza commercial, Papa John’s. Well, maybe not intentionally. But the similarities can’t be denied.

Papa John’s goes this way: Better Ingredients. Better Pizza. Papa John’s.”

And the Dems’ new slogan?

It reads: “A Better Deal: Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Wages.”

Now some might say that this slogan hails from Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal” days. But it’s actually much closer to the pizza ads.

The ones with Peyton Manning are pretty cool. For a quarterback, he’s actually a natural behind the camera — certainly no Tom Brady, but decent. Respectable. His mother wouldn’t disown him. He can show his face in public without embarrassment — speaking of which, I wonder how many times he’s approached for autographs based on his pizza ad commercials versus his football star status?

It’d be interesting to see if Manning fields more autograph requests from his Papa John’s fame than his Colts and Broncos presence — interesting and funny. Well, only funny if his pizza ad presence actually brought him more fan love than his football fame. Imagine being a quarterback of Manning’s skill, but then, instead of being remembered for football, going down in history as the pizza dude — but I digress.

We were talking about the Democrats’ new political slogan, weren’t we?

And sadly, therein lies the problem. You can’t read this new Democratic slogan without thinking of Papa John’s. And you can’t think of Papa John’s without thinking of pizza.

That’s called failed advertising. Not for Papa John’s. For the Dems.

Unless, of course, Democrats want to be remembered as the party of pizza. Come to think of it, given their recent track records of electoral wins — can you say major losses? — maybe that’s not a bad idea.
