NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - The pastor of a Connecticut church has been sentenced to serve three years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.
Walter Williams, senior pastor at Walk of Faith Church of Christ in New Haven, was accused of as many as six sexual encounters with a minor between 2015 and 2016. The victim’s mother contacted police after she discovered text messages between her daughter and Williams on her daughter’s phone. He was 59 at the time of his arrest.
The New Haven Register (https://bit.ly/2ttNK2e ) reports that Williams pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor under a plea agreement.
The agreement specified that Williams was to be given a sentence between nine months and five years. Williams will also serve 10 years of probation.
