HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Montana Gov. Steve Bullock has hired a former executive director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee as his new chief of staff.

Bullock said Thursday that Tom Lopach will replace Tracy Stone-Manning, who is going to work for the National Wildlife Federation in Missoula.

Lopach is from Helena and was the chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Jon Tester from 2010 to 2014.

He was the executive director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee during the 2016 election cycle, when Tester was the chairman.

The committee promotes Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate.

Lopach will begin work on Aug. 7.

The top-level staffing change comes two days after Bullock registered a political committee to raise his national profile.
