METAIRIE, La. (AP) - A woman found dead in her bed at a senior care facility in suburban New Orleans had been strangled.
The woman was found Tuesday evening at the facility in Metairie. At first, 84-year-old Pauline Ballon was believed to have died from natural causes. But the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that an autopsy showed she died from strangulation.
A sheriff’s office news release says no motives or suspects had been determined as of late Wednesday.
Ballon was in a home for seniors run by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The archdiocese released a statement saying officials there were saddened by the death, praying for the victim and cooperating with authorities.
