SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah inmate has pleaded guilty to a murder charge in his cellmate’s killing.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2svZm4i ) 39-year-old Timothy Maez pleaded guilty on Friday. He will be sentenced Aug. 21 and could face up to life in prison.

Maez is accused of killing his cellmate, James Corbett, last year. According to the report, the men had argued before Corbett’s death.

Charges state that Maez punched Corbett and then proceeded to stabbing, cutting and beating him repeatedly until he was unconscious. Maez told police he later strangling Corbett with a bed sheet and did not leave him alone until officers enter their cell for a security check.

Corbett had been in prison for two counts of attempted sexual abuse of a child.
