TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s former top lawyer will soon be running the state’s jobs recruiting agency.

Scott and members of the Enterprise Florida executive committee voted Wednesday to offer the post to Peter Antonacci. Antonacci used to be Scott’s general counsel but currently works as executive director of the South Florida Water Management District.

Antonacci has worked in state government for most of his career.

Enterprise Florida has been without a permanent leader since former legislator Chris Hart abruptly resigned in March. Hart cited an ongoing conflict with Scott over the future of the organization responsible for luring companies to the state.

Republican legislators nearly scuttled the agency this year but worked out a deal with Scott to keep it intact.

The full Enterprise Florida board could vote on the appointment next week.
