SISTERS, Ore. (AP) - A Texas teenager has been seriously injured after attempting to cliff dive into Blue Pool.

The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/2u4yUMT ) the 17-year-old was hiking with her mother and friends when she was injured on Monday.

Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley says the girl jumped from a cliff about 30 to 35 feet (10 meters) above the water and hit a rock about 20 feet down, landing in shallow water.

Riley says the girl suffered “a substantial injury to her left hip, possibly resulting in a fracture.”

Two of her friends pulled her to safety and then a bystander hiked 2 miles (3 kilometers) to the nearest cellphone service and called for help.

An Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter took the girl to a nearby hospital. She is in stable condition.
