Cyndi Lauper pulled Sen. Susan Collins onstage during a concert with Rod Stewart Friday night, praising the Maine Republican for her work addressing youth homelessness.
Ms. Collins tweeted a video of the encounter at the Waterfront Concerts in Bangor, including a reference to Ms. Lauper’s pro-LGBT nonprofit initiative, the True Colors Fund.

“Come,” Ms. Lauper called to Ms. Collins offstage. “This woman is a hero. And she’s my hero.”
“And she’s a Republican,” she added, earning a roar of applause.
“She helped us so much with the LGBT homeless youth and all the homeless kids. I was blessed to testify on her committee, which was bipartisan,” Ms. Lauper said, referring to her 2015 appearance before the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development subcommittee.
“We’re just glad you’re here, Cyndi!” Ms. Collins responded before hugging the singer and retiring back to the wings of the stage.
In an interview Saturday with a local NBC affiliate, Ms. Collins said she was “deeply” touched by the gesture.
Ms. Lauper, who performed at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, later tweeted a photo of herself with Ms. Collins and Mr. Stewart.
