CHICAGO (AP) - A 10-year-old boy was one of 10 homicide victims in Chicago since Friday evening and the fourth child to be fatally shot in the city this year.
Police say Gustavo Garcia was in an SUV with his stepfather and another man on the city’s far South Side on Friday night when someone inside a nearby car opened fire and shot him in the back.
The boy was among more than 40 people shot in Chicago since Friday evening. The weekend brought to 369 the number of homicides in Chicago so far this year.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says there have been four children 12 and younger who have been fatally shot in Chicago in 2017 - one more than were shot and killed in all of 2016.
