PHOENIX (AP) - The prospect of flooding from monsoon storms has some Arizona cities distributing sandbags free to the public to help protect property.

Cities distributing sandbags to residents include Tucson and Scottsdale.

Tucson’s distribution site opens Friday at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds on South Sixth Avenue. Distribution of the prefilled bags is part of an ongoing program that also includes barricading crossings that flow with storm water.

Scottsdale official says sand and bags are available 24 hours a day for city residents at three locations. The city provides bags as well as shovels for residents to use to fill the bags.

Scottsdale limits distribution to 10 bags per household. Tucson limits its distribution to 10 bags per vehicle.
