ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - A federal appeals court has reinstated the death sentence for a woman who stabbed to death a 9-year-old Anaheim girl in 1990.

The Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/2t0qt3H ) says the court ruled Friday in an appeal by Maria Del Rosio Alfaro.

Alfaro was convicted of stabbing Autumn Wallace more than 50 times during a burglary and robbery of the girl’s home. Wallace was home alone after school. Wallace was an acquaintance of the girl’s sister and also a drug addict.

Alfaro was sentenced to death in 1992 but a judge overturned the sentence. The sentence was reinstated by a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
