SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - The San Jose Sharks have re-signed forward Chris Tierney to a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old had 11 goals and 12 assists in 80 games for San Jose last season. For his career, he has 24 goals and 40 assists in 202 games - all with the Sharks.

Tierney had five goals and four assists in 24 playoff games during San Jose’s run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2016.

“We believe Chris has yet to hit his prime, but has already proven that he can be a key member on our penalty kill and the defensive side of the puck,” General Manager Doug Wilson said Thursday in a release announcing the signing.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Tierney was selected by San Jose in the second round, No. 55 overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
