SEATTLE (AP) - A Florida man facing charges for allegedly causing a disturbance that forced a Delta Air Lines flight from Seattle to Beijing to return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will remain in federal custody.
The Seattle Times reports (https://goo.gl/JXXGc2 ) 23-year-old Joseph Daniel Hudek IV waived a Thursday bail hearing.
His attorney, Robert Flennaugh II, said he has gathered 185 letters of support on Hudek’s behalf, but was not prepared to argue for Hudek’s release during the brief hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge James Donohue.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Masada has asked for detention, citing community safety and concerns that Hudek might flee.
Hudek is charged with interfering with a flight crew for allegedly punching a flight attendant and hitting a passenger in the head with a wine bottle on the flight last Thursday.
Authorities said it took multiple people to restrain him until the flight landed.
