At the first of four stops on the promotional tour for the highly-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, UFC President Dana White claimed he had received a call about the fight from President Trump.
Asked whether he would be sending a ticket for the Aug. 26 bout to President Trump, White told TMZ Sports, “Funny you say that, but they called me yesterday. And I don’t think they’re gonna come, but they’ll be watching.”
White went on to say that the president probably won’t attend because “he feels like … he’ll ruin the event if he shows up. Secret Service is gonna have to go through the place, they’re gonna have to shut down streets and create crazy traffic.”
Trump and White are reportedly close friends, with White having supported the president during his election campaign. The fight promoter notably delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention last summer, proclaiming that “Donald Trump is a fighter and I know he will fight for this country.”
