The field of candidates competing to be Louisiana’s next state treasurer has swelled to five.

Former state budget administrator Angele Davis, state Sen. Neil Riser and former state Rep. John Schroder - Republicans who previously announced their campaigns - filled out their paperwork Wednesday to be on the Oct. 14 ballot.

Also registering on the first day of the election qualifying period were Joseph Little, a Libertarian from Ponchatoula, and Derrick Edwards, a New Orleans lawyer and Democrat who ran unsuccessfully last year for the U.S. Senate.

The treasurer is Louisiana’s money manager and chief investment officer, with oversight of state borrowing and state savings accounts. The job is open because Republican John Kennedy was elected to the U.S. Senate.
