The three American men who thwarted a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train two years ago have been cast to play themselves in Clint Eastwood’s forthcoming film “The 15:17 to Paris.”
Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos and civilian Anthony Sadler will appear in the film about their heroic act of taking down a heavily armed gunman who injured three people on a train from Amsterdam to Paris, The Associated Press reported late Tuesday.
The film, which began production this week, follows the men’s childhood in California and their friendship in the years leading up to the train attack, so they won’t necessarily have starring roles, Variety reported.
Casting the subject of a film in this capacity is nearly unprecedented, the AP noted.
Actors Jenna Fischer, Judy Greer and Ray Corasani will also appear in the film, which is based on the 2016 book, “The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes,” authored by the heroes themselves and Jeffrey E. Stern.
