A live-on-stage tribute to comic book legend Stan Lee has tapped its emcee for the evening, Nerdist.com creator and podcaster Chris Hardwick, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.

Mr. Hardwick, a comedian and TV personality, has gained a faithful following in the past nine years on the strength of his interviews of pop-culture icons, particularly those beloved in “nerd culture” such as comic-book creators and sci-fi actors.

The 94-year-old Mr. Lee, who created Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk and the X-Men, among other comic-book characters, is scheduled to attend the August 22 “Extraordinary: Stan Lee” show at Beverly Hills’ Saban Theatre.

THR reports that “Extraordinary” will be a “This Is Your Life”-style review that will feature guest appearances by individuals who have worked with Mr. Lee over his storied career.

The event is bound to be a bittersweet occasion for Mr. Lee, who on July 6 lost his wife of nearly 70 years, Joan. It was Joan whom Mr. Lee oft credited for encouraging him to persevere in his comic-book work, inspiring him to create The Fantastic Four, THR said in a July 6 story on Joan’s passing.

Tickets for “Extraordinary” are selling on Ticketmaster between $95 and $350 per seat.

Attendees at the event will be able to pose with Mr. Lee in a photo-op following the evening’s program, but no autographs will be signed, according to Ticketmaster.

Fans who can’t be there in person should be able to watch the event livestreamed at a participating movie theater, THR reported.
