SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - Demolition of a decrepit train station in Schenectady is underway as plans for a new rail facility move forward.
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo traveled to Schenectady to highlight the project, which he says will help the city’s recovery following decades of economic struggle.
Work on the new $23 million station is expected to be completed by the end of next year. It will replace a cramped, 44-year-old facility that Cuomo toured last winter and said was “way past its prime.”
Cuomo says smart investments in airports, roadways and rail facilities are essential to reversing years of economic decline in upstate New York.
