WASHINGTON (AP) - The D.C. Council has voted not to provide information about city voters to President Donald Trump’s commission on election fraud, underscoring a previous pledge by the city’s mayor.

The Washington Post reports the council voted unanimously Tuesday to make it illegal for elections officials to provide the commission information beyond what is already publicly available. Mayor Muriel Bowser said last month that she would not comply with the commission’s information demands.

A total of 17 states are refusing to comply with the commission’s request. Others plan to provide only limited, publicly-available information.

The commission had given states until July 14 to provide data including names, birth dates and partial Social Security numbers. But on Monday, the panel told states to hold off because of a lawsuit related to the request.
