LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen has been named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which recognizes the nation’s top college player.

The Maxwell Football Club announced the watch list on Monday. The award is presented at the end of the year.

Allen is one of the highest rated college quarterbacks in the nation entering the 2017 season. He has been mentioned as a potential first round draft pick.

As a sophomore in 2016, Allen ranked No. 6 nationally in passing yards per completion (15.33 yards). Allen threw 28 touchdown passes last season, placing him No. 20 in the NCAA.

Separately, Wyoming safety Andrew Wingard has been named to the Bednarik Award watch list for the college defensive player of the year.
