Tennis great Rafael Nadal was upset in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon Monday, falling in a five-set thriller to 16-seed Gilles Muller.

In a match that lasted well over four hours, the fourth-seeded Nadal fought his way back after going down two sets to none. The Spaniard fell just short of completing an epic comeback in the fifth set, however, Muller squeaking out a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 15-13 win.

Nadal is one of the quartet of players known as the “Big Four,” which also includes Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic. The group has combined to win every Wimbledon title since 2003, and 44 of the last 49 Grand Slam events.

Both Murray and Federer had won their fourth-round matches earlier in the day in straight sets, with Djokovic set to face unseeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino on Court 1 following Nadal’s surprising loss.
