TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Police say a 10-month-old girl was rescued from a locked car in a Walmart parking lot by a passer-by who broke a window to get the girl out.

Tucson Fire spokesman Capt. Julian Herrera says the child was in stable condition and did not need to be taken to the hospital, but was crying, sweaty and hot.

Tucson Police Sgt. Pete Dugan says the parents were not aware that their baby was in the back seat of the car. They are from out-of-state and are visiting family.

National Weather Service statistics show it was 102 degrees Fahrenheit at Tucson International Airport when the incident occurred.

Dugan said police would notify the state’s Department of Child Safety.
