ELK GROVE, Calif. (AP) - A police dog has been injured after two men accused of robbing an Elk Grove Jamba Juice led officers on a chase.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/2i8KcIr ) that officers responded Saturday to the juice shop after reports of a robbery and found the two suspects fleeing toward a parked vehicle. Two men opened fire after an officer set the dog loose.

The police dog was shot twice but is expected to survive. The police officer returned fire and struck both suspects, who fled but were taken into custody. Both suspects are expected to survive their injuries and have been cleared to leave medical treatment for detention.

The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on paid administrative leave.
