Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton reportedly received several ovations Sunday as she and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and their daughter, Chelsea, attended the sold-out final performance of Broadway’s revival of “The Color Purple.”
In a rare public appearance since losing the November election to President-elect Donald Trump, Mrs. Clinton was greeted with a standing ovation as she and her family arrived at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City, according to several reports.
The former secretary of state received another round of applause after she was acknowledged during the curtain call, The New York Times reported.
“There’s a lot of really awesome famous and notable people here today,” actress Patrice Covington said from the stage after the matinee performance ended.
“I’m not going to call all of them out — I know you already know them,” she said, waving at Mrs. Clinton and causing the audience to erupt with applause, The Times reported.
Some audience members shouted, “We love you Hillary.”

Video footage showed people leaning over balconies to catch a photo of Mrs. Clinton. She was reportedly ushered out a side door after the musical ended.
The reaction was vastly different than Broadway’s treatment of Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who was booed by audience members and lectured by the cast of “Hamilton” from the stage at Richard Rodgers Theatre in November.
