BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Two Catholic churches in Burlington have decided to merge due to low attendance and financial troubles.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2jfwu7m ) the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will no longer be holding Sunday masses and will join services at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. The cathedral will continue to hold weekday noon masses, as well as baptisms and weddings by request and its once-a-month Vietnamese service.

The merger will need final approval from the Vatican. Burlington has six total Catholic parishes. As of now the diocese has no plans to sell any of the church property.
