ARLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police say preliminary autopsy results indicate an 81-year-old woman found dead in her Vermont home this week died of stab wounds to her torso and her death is being classified a homicide.
State police officers investigating the killing of Helen Jones at her home in Arlington gathered evidence Friday. They’ve been conducting interviews and following up on leads.
They say their investigation shows there was a forced entry into Jones’ home. Detectives say they’re aware of several other burglaries that have occurred in the area over the past week and are exploring the possibility of a connection to Jones’ killing.
A neighbor found Jones dead on Wednesday night. Jones’ autopsy was conducted Friday at the chief medical examiner’s office in Burlington.
