LAS VEGAS (AP) - The Latest on the shooting of a man who Las Vegas police say tried to rob an on-duty plainclothes officer at gunpoint (all times local):

Authorities in Las Vegas have identified a 48-year-old ex-felon who was shot by an on-duty plainclothes detective during what police say was an attempted armed robbery in an alley.
Court and jail records show that Thomas Lamar Cotton is expected to face an assault with a weapon charge once he’s released from a hospital where he underwent surgery late Thursday.
Police say Cotton displayed a revolver before he was shot by a detective who was part of a surveillance team involved in an unrelated case.
Capt. John McGrath says the detective was alone and getting out of his vehicle when two men tried to rob him.
McGrath says the officer identified himself before shooting the man with a gun.
The other man ran away and is being sought for questioning.

Police say a man who was shot by an on-duty plainclothes officer was trying to rob him at gunpoint in an alley northwest of downtown Las Vegas.
Las Vegas police Officer Michael Rodriguez said Friday the man who was wounded had a revolver when he was shot a little after 9:30 p.m. Thursday near Jones Boulevard and Washington Avenue.
The wounded man’s name wasn’t made public, but police say he is expected to survive.
Capt. John McGrath says the detective was part of a surveillance team but was alone and getting out of his vehicle when two tried to rob him.
Rodriguez says a man who was with him ran away and is being sought.
McGrath says the officer identified himself before shooting the one with a gun.
