BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police say a suspicious package found outside the federal building in Burlington was an “inert” box full of wires with a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo tells the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/2jdautZ ) that the box had been dropped into a mailbox in front of the post office and was discovered by a postal worker on Friday morning.

He said the Postal Inspector is investigating.

Del Pozo says the box was destroyed by a robot and the letter has been turned over the post office.

He would not discuss what was in the letter.

Traffic had been restricted near Elmwood Avenue, but the affected areas reopened in the early afternoon.
