Duke University announced that men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski had successful back surgery Friday to remove a fragment of a herniated disc.
“Surgery went exactly as planned,” said Dr. Allan Friedman, who performed the surgery at Duke University Hospital. “Coach is in terrific physical shape and we expect a full recovery.”
Krzyzewski is expected to miss a month as he recovers from the surgery.
The 69-year-old coach is the winningest coach in Division I history with 1,056 career wins. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001, Krzyzewski’s current team has a 12-2 record this season and ranks eighth in the nation.
