BALTIMORE (AP) - The Transportation Security Administration says a man was arrested at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport after officials caught him trying to carry an unloaded handgun past a security checkpoint.

The TSA said in a statement that the man was arrested Thursday with the .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun after officers detected the gun among the man’s carry-on items.

TSA says the man was ticketed to fly to Atlanta and said he was taking the gun to his mother’s house for safe-keeping.

TSA did not identify the man except to say he is from Owings Mills, Maryland.
