RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Riverside police have found what they believe are the remains of a baby after a homeless woman said she buried a child who died shortly after birth.

Police tell the Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/2hYyoNF ) that the remains were found Thursday in a field after the woman led them to a site near Riverside Municipal Airport.

Officer Ryan Railsback says the woman checked into a local hospital on Wednesday to give birth and told a social worker she’d buried another child a year ago.

The woman reportedly said the child was born prematurely and died shortly after birth.

Railsback says police don’t believe the woman intentionally killed her child and she hasn’t been arrested.

Police hope coroner’s officials will determine how and when the baby died.
