DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An attorney says a man charged with killing two Des Moines residents who were living with him has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/2j7urCb ) that the attorney for Michael Wanchanic filed a motion Wednesday that notified a judge about the deal and asked for a plea hearing on Jan. 20. The motion didn’t provide details of the agreement.

Wanchanic is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of 36-year-old Bryon Howard and 31-year-old Heather Belieu. The two were found shot to death in late November 2015. Wanchanic was arrested after a high-speed chase with law enforcement and a standoff that lasted for hours the day following the killings.
